Ludlowville Falls (a.k.a. Salmon Creek Falls) is less impressive for its height (35-40 feet) than its width, falling in multiple chutes (or one mega-drop after snowmelt or heavy rains). The waterfall—less than a 20-minute drive from Ithaca, New York—is also notable for its residential setting: it must be a joy for residents of the small, quaint community of Ludlowville to have such a thunderous drop merely steps from home. The falls can be viewed from the north end of leafy Ludlowville Park. Here a fence prevents visitors from getting too close to the rim. But an unofficial but often-used path leads east, then north to the base of the falls along Salmon Creek. Be very careful as one drops down a steep section with slippery boulders before tiptoeing across a muddy surface to a spot where one can feel the fall’s spray. Behind the falls is a dusky alcove, not easily accessible without taking the plunge into the surprisingly deep pool. This waterfall is a nice spot to check out as part of a broader waterfall-hunting trip in and around Ithaca.

Beautiful and impressive!
